Ed Scopel, AIA Ed recently joined the RATIO team after working in the public sector as the associate campus architect at the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign (UIUC). While at the University, he took on the roles of project manager, architect/capital planning and most recently, interim campus architect. Prior to his work at UIUC, he was project manager with an architectural firm. Ed’s past experiences have given him a strong familiarity with all phases of the project delivery process from the perspective of both owner and professional services consultant. Skilled at building consensus within diverse user groups, he uses his creative energy and technical expertise to help clients define and achieve their goals. Magazines I read: Given the choice of reading a magazine or listening to music, I'll choose the latter every time. My parents got me a radio for my 12 birthday – I've been a “radiohead” ever since. Things that get me excited: The low, throaty grumble of Bologna, Italy's finest, a long, curvy stretch of two lane highway, calm winds, sunny skies, and the realization that you've found The Middle Of Nowhere. Why? Slightly irresponsible behavior. Books I would recommend to anyone: Anything by Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. because he says what I'd say if I were that smart. Why I do this: Because I can't sing like Al Green. But if I had to do it all over again: Read Vonnegut's Timequake, then ask me again.
