Champaign, IL (March 16, 2010) – RATIO Architects has named Ed Scopel, AIA, the office leader at the firm’s Champaign, IL location. As the office leader, Ed will manage the Champaign studio’s day-to-day operations and act as the area contact for the Champaign-Urbana community. In addition, he will continue in his current role as a project manager for higher education and community clients.
“As a firm dedicated to building community through contextual design, we knew we needed to select a team member who is not only a strong leader, but who is an active community member,” said William A. Browne, FAIA, LEED BD&C, RATIO’s founding principal. “Ed’s deep understanding of the architectural industry combined with his familiarity with the Urbana-Champaign community makes him ideally suited for this role.”
Ed is currently leading the team designing the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign’s Huff Hall North Addition. In addition, he is the project director for the Normal, IL Multimodal Transit Facility. Designed to achieve LEED silver certification, the Multimodal Transit Facility was awarded $22 million from the Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) grant.
Before joining the RATIO team three years ago, Ed was the associate campus architect for the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
