In 2006, Duke University hired RATIO to design a parking garage to be located on the university's Medical Center Campus. This new facility will provide parking for the students and faculty of nearby research buildings, as well as for visitors to the adjacent Duke Eye Center. The seven-story, 2,000 car parking structure is constructed of cast in place post tensioned concrete with an outboard ramp and flat floor plates to allow for clear unobstructed views.
Architectural pre-cast concrete, Duke stone, and terra cotta wall tiles are utilized to give the facade a variety of textures and colors and reduce the scale of the building. Planted trellis wall panels further soften the exterior appearance at the entrances. The parking garage features an array of "green" features and is being documented for LEED certification.
